Telefónica’s Movistar will be the first mobile operator to launch sponsored data across Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama
Panama City, Panama | 03 April, 2017 – Global telecommunications company Telefónica and sponsored data specialist Datami today announced a commercial roll-out of sponsored data and data rewards using Datami’s mobile marketing and data monetization platform. This follows an earlier announcement of a global partnership between Telefonica and Datami on February 13th 2017.
Telefónica’s Movistar will be the first mobile operator to launch sponsored data across Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama and expects to replicate the commercial success that Telefonica’s VIVO has already enjoyed in Brazil.
Brand Sponsored Data drives more effective and inclusive customer engagement by removing customers’ concerns over the mobile data costs associated with content consumption. Allowing brands to sponsor mobile data encourages customers to respond at the point of engagement, wherever they are, keeping traffic on the mobile network rather than driving customers to seek out a cheaper Wi-Fi connection.

As a pioneer in the field, Telefónica Group has already commercially launched more than a dozen sponsored data apps across Brazil and Colombia including many banks, e-commerce companies and food delivery companies. And the Datami platform is already supporting more than 10 million sponsored subscribers across LATAM and is also commercially available in 4 other continents bringing scale to the brands that reach beyond LATAM.
