Telefónica to Roll-out Brand Sponsored Data Across Central America with Datami

Telefónica’s Movistar will be the first mobile operator to launch sponsored data across Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama

Panama City, Panama | 03 April, 2017 – Global telecommunications company Telefónica and sponsored data specialist Datami today announced a commercial roll-out of sponsored data and data rewards using Datami’s mobile marketing and data monetization platform.  This follows an earlier announcement of a global partnership between Telefonica and Datami on February 13th 2017.

Telefónica’s Movistar will be the first mobile operator to launch sponsored data across Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama and expects to replicate the commercial success that Telefonica’s VIVO has already enjoyed in Brazil.

Brand Sponsored Data drives more effective and inclusive customer engagement by removing customers’ concerns over the mobile data costs associated with content consumption. Allowing brands to sponsor mobile data encourages customers to respond at the point of engagement, wherever they are, keeping traffic on the mobile network rather than driving customers to seek out a cheaper Wi-Fi connection.

“Our discussions with brands are materializing quickly—we have several ready to launch. We see many verticals e.g. banks, commerce, transportation and even public service apps benefiting from increased mobile engagement” said Jorge Fernandez, Subdirector of New Business Development, Telefónica Central America. “We look forward to taking this innovative step and being the first mobile operator to bring this exciting technology to our mobile customers across Central America”

As a pioneer in the field, Telefónica Group has already commercially launched more than a dozen sponsored data apps across Brazil and Colombia including many banks, e-commerce companies and food delivery companies. And the Datami platform is already supporting more than 10 million sponsored subscribers across LATAM and is also commercially available in 4 other continents bringing scale to the brands that reach beyond LATAM.

“We are thrilled to be working closely with Telefónica in Central America” said Harjot Saluja, CEO of Datami. “We look forward to introducing a rich set of use cases into the region that stretch beyond sponsored data and also include a data reward for the mobile customer upon engaging directly with offers from brands.”

The Datami platform is unique in supporting hundreds of Brand Sponsored Data and Data Rewards use cases and solving many of the nagging technical problems that hamper brands’ attempts to connect directly to the operator network. The platform benefits from a simple on-boarding process which enables any brand, any app, or any advertiser to easily establish campaigns in their native environment. There is no need to conform to a new app or be restricted to simple “on/off” campaigns as is often the case with a direct connection to the operator network. With the Datami platform you can configure each campaign with great fidelity and control — The brand is always in full control and can also monitor their live campaign with a full analytics suite.
